Does Plastic Surgery Really Improve Body Image?

Before you get a cosmetic surgery procedure performed, it makes sense that you would wonder if it will really improve your body image and your self-esteem. The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation wondered the very same thing. They were able to conduct a study to answer this important question.

The researchers found that patients were not only satisfied with their surgery, but also experienced a decrease in the frequency of negative body image emotions in specific social situations for as long as 12 months after surgery. The study was funded by a research grant from ASERF. Results of the study were published in the May/June issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ).

The choice to have cosmetic surgery is still a difficult one. Yet, with studies showing that patients really did have an increased body image, the benefits to surgery are more persuasive. If you've always wanted to change aspects of your body, talk to a qualified cosmetic surgeon like David A. Bottger, M.D. in the Philadelphia-Reading-Lehigh Valley to perform your procedure.
