Ethnicity in Plastic Surgery

In 2005, a study was conducted which tracked the total amount of plastic surgeries, the percentages of those performed by any given ethnicity, and the popularity of procedures thereof, producing some fairly interesting results. Of the 10.2 million procedures performed during 2005:

  • Asians held 4% of those procedures, favoring eyelid procedures, nose reshaping, and breast augmentation above all else.
  • African Americans held 8% of the total procedures, favoring nose reshaping, breast reduction and liposuction.
  • Hispanics had 9% of all procedures, with a preference to nose reshaping, breast augmentation, and liposuction.
Of all the procedures done, the most popular for any ethnicity were Botox, injectable fillers, and chemical peels.
