Silicone Gel Implant Approval Imminent

Mentor, a breast implant manufacturing plant, has developed a new silicone gel implant that could get FDA approval within the next few weeks. The event is very exciting, as cosmetic surgeons and health analysts have been battling for the benefits of silicone in breast augmentation without the dangers of leakage. After being banned for 13 years, the nearing approach of market release for these implants is electrifying for many manufacturers.

The FDA has informed Mentor that the implants can be approved under certain conditions. According to Joshua H. Levine of the Santa Barbara, California-based Mentor, "We are very encouraged by this communication from the FDA, and view this letter as a positive sign for women and their surgeons that another option will soon be available."

If you'd like to find more information on the benefits and dangers of breast implants, feel free to talk to a professional cosmetic surgeon such as Dr. Martin O'Toole of the Pasadena Cosmetic Surgery Center in Pasadena, California.

Study Up For Surgery

Before any major decision, it's good to know what you're getting into. Besides counseling a cosmetic surgeon, a smart solution to attaining plastic surgery knowledge would be to read up reports and guides from credible sources. A new report released from Harvard Medical School outlines in detail the risks, benefits, and general procedures comprising cosmetic surgery.

All the details on plastic surgery that you could need to know are to be found in Cosmetic Surgery A to Z from Harvard Medical School. From recovery times to price estimates, this resource is priceless. The report is extremely well organized and as a result is easy to navigate and understand. Dangerous side effects and potential complications of surgery are well covered in this report, as well as answers to basic questions such as "Will I feel pain for this procedure?" and "How should I prepare?".

Being unprepared for cosmetic surgery could be extremely dangerous. You may pick up the wrong idea about a procedure from an unreliable source and wind up with results you don't want. Be sure to read up before you go in for surgery with a resource like Harvard Medical School's Cosmetic Surgery A to Z, which can be purchased at Harvard Health Publications.

If you're interested in cosmetic surgery and have already read up for the procedure of your choice, a good next step would be to consult with a certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Broadway of the Broadway Cosmetic Surgery Center in Denver, Colorado.

Before and After Surgery Skin Treatment

Obagi Medical Products, Inc. is a company which develops health and beauty products directed at dermatology and plastic surgery. They have released a new line of topical skin care called Obagi Condition & Enhance Systems which aids the cosmetic surgery procedure by preparing the skin beforehand and then maintaining good skin conditions after surgery. Obagi conducted a study recently of this product of more than 2,500 patients who used the Obagi skin care treatments along with Botox injections. The Condition & Enhance Systems increased overall skin quality ratings by two and a half times. Another study which was conducted by Obagi Medical Products, Inc. included a log which showed that 97% of physicians tested recommended pre-conditioning with the skin care treatment while 94% recommended the skin treatment for post-operation maintenance.

The skin treatment is designed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as improve general skin complexion, like clearing mottled and sallow skin. The pre-operation treatment is especially noticable in its skin softening properties, which go to the extreme that some cosmetic peeling procedures have decreased in use. The post-operation use alleviates hyperpigmentation while increasing blood flow to promote a faster healing process. The most common procedures the skin treatment is used with are Botox, microdermabrasion, peels, fillers, laser hair removal and face lifts.
