The Mini Tummy Tuck

Pregnancy, weight loss, and even age can leave your abdomen looking flabby. Diet and exercise are always the preferred choices for a tight, flat stomach, but they're not always enough. Loss of skin elasticity and muscles which have been stretched beyond return can mean loose skin and excess muscle tissue which do not respond to exercise and do not improve with any amount of weight loss.

A full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can leave significant scars and requires significant recovery. For many women, a mini tummy tuck is a more realistic option with beautiful results. The mini tummy tuck addresses the lower abdomen, the area below the belly button. It requires fewer and smaller incisions and far less downtime. Excess fat and skin are removed, and the muscles can be tightened.

Advances in Fighting Cellulite

Cellulite afflicts about 90% of women over 30 and many men. Easily mistaken for fat, the problem actually lies in the skin. Even skinny women can have lumpy, unsightly cellulite, and it drives many to extreme and unhealthy weight loss efforts which never produce the desired results.

Cellulite is actually caused by lack of skin elasticity and bands of fibrous tissue within the skin. A recent study found that, in many women, weight loss can actually make the appearance of cellulite worse.

There is hope that the enzyme collagenase may help to reduce cellulite. Collagenase breaks down collagen and in the process breaks up the fibrous tissues which cause the lumps and bumps. Recent research has shown very promising results, with test subjects experiencing a 77% reduction in dimpling almost immediately after collagenase injections.

Antibiotics for Anti-Aging

Ample collagen is a primary component of youthful skin. Anti-aging treatments often involve stimulating collagen production or infusing collagen into the skin. The destruction and replacement of collagen is a normal process of the body. As we age our bodies lose the ability to keep up, more collagen is destroyed than replaced. This leads to wrinkles and other signs of aging skin.

Collagenase is an enzyme that helps break down collagen. Currently, clinical trials are underway using the antibiotic doxycycline to inhibit collagenase and preserve preexisting collagen. The antibiotic is used in doses too low for antimicrobial activity, to prevent creating resistance. The treatment is already being used to treat periodontal disease by strengthening gum tissue.
