Man Boob Procedures on the Rise

There has been a marked increase in males undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures in recent years. Interestingly, one of the procedures that has grown in popularity the most is gynecomastia reduction, a procedure to get rid of man boobs.

Only five years ago, man boob procedures were all but non-existent, with a total of 22 men requesting them. Last year, plastic surgeons performed over 320 man boob procedures.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons has noted a 44% increase in man boob procedures last year. This represents a larger percentage increase than both breast augmentation and tummy tucks.

Man boobs can be caused by hormonal changes, disease, genetics, anabolic steroids, and the use of certain prescription drugs. However, the Super Size Big Mac deal may be as big a causal factor as any of the more medically related causes.

It is uncertain why more men are opting for this surgery now. Maybe we are witnessing a generation of sensitive men who have lingering self esteem issues dating back to childhood when they were teased in gym class for their man boobs. Perhaps society is just growing increasingly vain. Regardless, it appears that plastic surgeons across the world had better be prepared for an influx of gynecomastia patients in the next few years.
