The United Nations (UN) is a unique, international organization of 191 sovereign States, representing virtually every country in the world.
It was founded in 1945, after the Second World War, to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations and
promote social progress, better living standards and human rights. The United Nation’s dedication to peace and security, development and
human rights around the world was recognized on December 10 th of 2001, when the UN and its Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, were awarded the
centennial Nobel Peace Prize.
